There are some sessions you never forget… and this one will always hold a special place in my heart.

This was my very first in-home newborn session, and Laura and Colin’s very first baby.

There’s something so beautiful about being invited into a space where everything is brand new. New routines, new rhythms, new love that you can literally feel the moment you walk through the door.

And let me tell you… their home was filled with it.

A Slow, Sweet Start

If you’ve never experienced a newborn session before, here’s the truth:

They’re not rushed.

They’re not perfectly posed.

And they definitely don’t go exactly as planned.

And that’s the magic of it.

Baby needed to be fed (twice ), cuddled, and comforted. Instead of seeing that as a pause in the session, I leaned into it.

Because those are the moments that matter.

Dad holding baby close.

Mom gently soothing.

The quiet in-between moments that tell the real story of those first days at home.

A Full Circle Moment

Laura was actually my very first inquiry through my website, which already made this session feel special before we even met.

She mentioned how much she loved my work, and that meant more to me than she probably knows.

There’s something really encouraging about someone trusting you, especially in those early stages of building something you care so much about.

And getting to document such an important chapter in their lives after that… it just made the whole experience even more meaningful.

The Beauty of In-Home Sessions

There’s something so special about in-home newborn sessions.

They’re slow.

They’re gentle.

They leave space for real moments to unfold naturally.

This session was such a beautiful reminder that it’s not about creating perfect images…

It’s about capturing connection.

The way they held their baby.

The quiet moments in between feedings.

The love that filled every moment we documented.

And that’s what makes these sessions so meaningful —

Just being together, exactly as you are.

Learning As I Go (And Loving Every Second)

I’ll be honest… walking into my first newborn session, I had all the nerves.

Newborns are unpredictable.

Lighting can be tricky.

And posing a tiny human? Not as easy as it looks

But this session reminded me of something important:

It doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Some of my favorite images came from the simplest moments - a loving stare, a stretch, a tiny hand wrapped around dad’s finger.

And those are the moments I want to keep capturing.

To Laura & Colin

Thank you for trusting me with something so special.

Your love for your baby is so evident in every image, and I feel incredibly honored to have documented these first memories for your family.

Thinking About a Newborn Session?

If you’re expecting (or just welcomed your little one), here’s your gentle reminder:

You don’t need a perfectly styled home.

You don’t need everything to feel “put together.”

You don’t need a baby who sleeps the whole time.

You just need this season - exactly as it is.

Because one day, these will be the moments you’ll want to hold onto forever.
