And if I’m being honest… I learned that the hard way.
My daughter graduated in 2025, and when it came time for senior photos, she just wasn’t into it. She didn’t want to take them, didn’t see the point, and I didn’t push it the way I probably should have.
Now looking back, I wish we had done them so much.
Not for perfectly posed photos, but for what they represent. That in-between season before everything changes. Before they step into the next chapter of their life.
Senior year goes by quickly, and those small windows to capture it don’t last long.

When is the right time to book senior pictures?
As a senior photographer serving Rome, GA and surrounding Northwest Georgia—and as a mom who’s been on the other side of this—I want to help you plan it in a way that feels easy and not rushed.
When should you book senior photos?
The short answer is earlier than most people think.
The best time to book is usually between late winter and early summer of junior year, around February through June.
That gives you the most flexibility with scheduling, especially for evening sessions when the light is best. It also gives you time to think through outfits, locations, and the overall feel you want without feeling rushed.
If you wait until fall, you can still get beautiful photos, but your options may be more limited—and the experience can start to feel more like squeezing something in rather than enjoying it.
What time of year is best?
There’s no single “best” season. It really comes down to the look you’re drawn to.
Spring feels soft and fresh, with blooms and lighter tones.
Summer gives you that warm, glowy light and longer evenings.
Fall brings in deeper colors, layers, and a more classic feel.
Each one offers something different. The goal is choosing the one that feels most like you.
Why timing during the day matters
One of the biggest differences in how your photos turn out comes down to lighting.
I schedule senior sessions in the evening, close to sunset, because the light is softer and more flattering. It helps avoid harsh shadows and gives everything a more natural, relaxed look.
Midday light can be much harder to work with, and it often doesn’t give you the same feel.
It’s a small detail, but it makes a noticeable difference in the final images.
Choosing a location in Rome, GA
Location plays a big role in the overall feel of your session.
Around Rome and Northwest Georgia, there are so many good options depending on your style. Open fields, seasonal wildflowers, Berry College, and even parts of downtown all offer something different.
Some seniors want something soft and natural. Others want something a little more structured or modern.

What to plan ahead of time
Once your session is booked, that’s when things start to come together.
Outfits are usually the biggest piece. Neutrals, soft textures, and pieces that move tend to photograph really well, but the most important thing is that it still feels like you.
You can also think about simple accessories, hair and makeup, and the overall mood you’re going for.
If there’s something that represents who you are right now, this is the time to include it.
That could be:
a letterman jacket
sports equipment
a musical instrument
a hobby you love
or even something small that just feels like part of your personality
Those little details are what make your photos feel more meaningful and less generic. They help tell the story of this season of your life in a way that’s actually personal.

What happens if you wait too long
Waiting too long doesn’t mean you’ve missed your chance, but it can make things more limited.
You may have fewer dates to choose from, fewer options for locations, and less flexibility with timing.
And sometimes, it just ends up feeling rushed.

Senior photos shouldn’t feel stiff or overly posed.
They should feel relaxed, natural, and easy.
Most of my seniors start out a little unsure in front of the camera, and that’s completely normal. I guide you through the entire session so you don’t have to think about what to do with your hands or how to stand.
The goal is for it to feel like an experience, not just something to check off a list.
